Tau auxiliary - Gue'vesa Breachers

So following on from the previous post about my sons Tau, I thought I would continue with keeping up to date with its development. Now. as with all GW boxes, you get a whole host of options that very rarely get used, in this case its all the breacher parts. I had a little think about how I might use the parts and decided on doing so conversion work to form a unit of Gue'vesa soldiers.

For those not in the know, Gue'vesa is the Tau term for human auxiliaries. This idea is not mine but is something that has been around for a while now and its something that I always thought was cool. I decided to do this with the young mans bits as the price of Cadian models is significantly cheaper than buying extra Tau bodies. In total the 10 models cost me just over £8 ($10), a lot less than the £30 for a new box of Cadians and the £32.50 for more Fire Warriors. There was a minor issue in regards to the left arms, which are shared between the Breachers and Strike Squads but some spare guard arms came to the rescue. Another problem is that these are mostly the old Catachan arms and look ridiculous on the Cadian bodies but they are pretty much competely hidden by the Breacher shoulder pads, so its fine.

The Cadian models work quite well for Breacher conversions, as the Tau are no very numerous and they are careful not to waste the lives of Fire Warriors unless it is unavoidable. Well by using brainwasher Gue'vesa as breachers and sending them in to the close quarters battles and high risk environments, they can achieve victory and not waste the lives for Fire warriors, a win/win situation for the Tau.

 This little project brings my sons Tau army up to just over 800 points and now gives him 2 troop units as he builds towards a battalion detachment. I will see about putting up some photos of these once he has painted them up.

Hjaltland Light Infantry Army Photos

So here it is at last, the whole of the Hjaltland Light Infantry in all its glory, all 2400(ish) points. I say "ish" points as I calculated it at 2387 points but then discovered that I had some units down with the wrong weapons and had mixed a couple of units up between armies but it should be somewhere around the 2400 point mark. There are still a few bits that need doing to really finish it off, such as properly basing the flyers and sentinels plus rebuilding the wyverns to make them more accurately sized to the real versions. I will do this, hopefully this summer, when I can get outside with the spray varnish and properly varnish the models. 

Now, the pictures are a little out of sync, mostly because blogger is annoying and I get fed up of trying to get them in the order I wanted without just deleting the whole lot and starting again. The next couple of posts are a lot better as I changed how I imported the pictures in the beginning.

So there you have it, the Hjaltland Light Infantry in all its glory, ready to fight and die for the Emperor, which is about all they will be doing at the moment! Roll on the new codex!

Next up the Hrossey Yeomanry.

Warhammer Fest 2022

 

So it's that time of year again and we are given some juicy nuggets from GW. This year there was a lot of hype for the new stuff, namely the Horus  Heresy and Squats (Leagues of Votann) but there was also some possibilities of some Juicy Kill Team and Guard stuff as well.

The 40k announcements however did not really throw up any surprises, yes, there was the Squad hover bike but we knew there would be squat stuff, just not what it would be. In general we got a lot of chaos stuff, much of which we have had rumours about for a while. It was all very nice looking things and if I collected chaos I could be very excited about it. The squat bike is also very cool but it's a shame we didn't see more units to get more of a feel for the overall army.

I do like this bike, its got a good mix of Imperial, AdMech and advanced tech. I'm still not sold on the new squads though. We also got a new Chapter Approved and the announcement that the points updates are going to be free and not included within the new book. This is a good step forward if you ask me.  

Next up we had a day of Age of Sigmar and I paid no attention to this at all, so I've got nothing to say here!

The following day we moved in to the skirmish games and to start with we have the new Kill Team box. This is another good looking box set, although not one I will be looking to get. The two teams, traitor guard and marines are not teams that particularly interest me. I have plenty of guard teams and I could probably run this team as a loyalist version easily enough and the same can be said for the marines. The terrain is the new terrain and while it is rather nice but I don't need any more terrain and while its good, its not that good. 

I expect that we will get a bespoke Necron team soon, due to the fact that we got the War Zone Nephilm book a few days before. I expect that this will come in the form of a White Dwarf article and i will be looking to pick this up when it is released. 

Next up we have the new Necromunda releases and the Squat Prospectors. Now, these are proper squats and I really like these, far more than the new Leagues of Votann. I have no plans to get in to any versions of Necromunda but if I did, this would be one of my top picks. If I had the time and/or money, i would get a box of these just to own some, that's how much I like them but seeing as how I have a large pile of unbuilt and painted miniatures already, I cant really justify getting any of these just to keep on a shelf.

Finally we have the Horus Heresy. 5 years ago I would have jumped at grabbing a box set, with all the models and vehicles in there are great for boosting my old school marine armies. Now however, I have no plans on getting any more classic marines any time soon. I may dig out my old marines for the Heresy if other in my group take it up. I'll not repaint them so my opponents will have to deal with black Dark Angels and orange Blood Angels, not that I think anyone will mind.

I do like the new boxset, its packed full of goodies and the new boxsets to accompany the release are also good, with new MkIII, MkIV and MkVI packs, all containing 20 marines apiece. In addition there is also the weapon packs, with all manner of special and heavy weapons. These are really good pack and, again, 5 years ago I could well have picked up a number of these boxes.

In addition to this there are an updated Rhino and the new Kratos heavy tank, which is like a min Fellblade and does look quite good. Again, a few years ago I would probably have looked at picking one of these up but now, with my shift to purely Primaris marines, I'll be passing this one by.

All in all there were some really nice reveals from Warhammer Fest this year, however, none of them really interest me enough to make we want to actually spend money on them. I was hoping for some thing guard related, even an early teaser of some of the rumored new models but we got nothing. With everything we did get I am still thinking that we are going to have to wait until a lot later this year before we get our new codex, Personally I am still thinking September or October this year at the earliest. If this is true, then we could have another Marine codex and supplements released before we get our first 9th edition codex! I really hope that we don't have to wait that long but we shall see.

My son's Tau

Following on from last week's post about magnetising my son's Tau, I thought I would show the rest of his force which he is building and painting by himself, which I think is a good achievement for a 10 year old. I think that the painting is definitely a better standard than my first serious effort. He chose the colours and scheme by himself, the only alteration I made was to suggest a red helmet lense colour rather than the original blue, which didn't stand out at all.

In addition to this he has his Stealth suits, 6  in total, his Ghostkeel, a Cadre Fireblade and an ethereal, plus the specialist kill team pathfinder box. I have some plans to help him out and am trying to get some cheap Cadian bodies off eBay, which isn't as easy as you'd think! I plan on kit bashing these up with him, using the breacher squad parts left over from the strike squad to make some Gue'vesa cannon fodder.

We'll see if I can get some Cadians at a decent price to make it worth while.

Also I thought I should show some pictures of my daughter's chaos army. I'm less sure on whether she actually want this army or if her brother has told her she wants it, either way she has enjoyed painting up a few models, including a hellbrute. I've been very surprised how carefully she has painted up these models seeing as she is only 7.

 I really like the fact that the kids have been enjoying painting up the models and it's nice to just be able to let them get on with it as they are not my models (or not ones I plan on using). I doubt that the young lady will take this up longer term but watching the pair of them sit down together to paint is wonderful to see.
