Resolutions 2026

So despite the fact that we are nearly two months in to the year, here are my yearly resolutions for 2026! There won't be as many as last year, as given it's already the end of February a d I have picked up a brush about 4 times and built half a dozen models, several of which were 2 piece models!

Anyway, here's the list! (Not in any particular order)

1) Build, 2) paint and 3) varnish Grey Knights Terminators

Not yet purchased but I do want these. They will be for my Imperial Agents army but my find themselves very quickly relegated to the display cabinet if 11th does away with the Agents codex!

4) Build, 5) paint and 6) varnish Sisters Rhino

Another model that hasn’t been purchased yet! Either way, I plan to get one of these this year for my sisters to trundle round in, but may suffer the same fate as the Grey Knights above.

7) paint and 8) varnish Death Korps Engineers

These are primed and ready and I have a paint scheme in mind, slightly different from the regular Krieg but easily identifiable as part of the same army. Just need time to paint now!

9) Build, 10) paint and 11) varnish Field Ordnance Battery

I abe 4 guns, for two squads, on order from Forbidden Planet. Hopefully they will turn up soon and then I can get building so I have a squad of each type of gun. These will be built to be Krieg in style to match the rest of the Krieg models I have.

12) paint and 13) varnish Death Korps heavy weapons squads

Three squads ready to paint. These will be in the same scheme as the main force.

14) paint and 15) varnish Death Korps Command Squad

These are half painted already, with 6 of the 12 models painted. I will be doing these first, as soon as I get some time!

16) kitbash, 17) paint and 18) varnish Eagle Knights vanguard vets

I have tem models ready to kitbash in to vanguard vets for the Eagle Knights. I have been holding off a bit as these are one of the few first born kits still around and I expect an update soon, possibly for 11th. That means these will be on the back burner for a little bit until I see what happens or I run out of other stuff to paint (which is unlikely!)

19) paint and 20) varnish Kasrkin

The last on the list are the Kasrkin models that need painting and varnishing. Technically there are 10 Kasrkin and 2 Castellans but I'm just limping them in together here as they are going to be painted basically the same.

So a little bit of a smaller list this year but still quite a few items on the list, 9 of which relate to models I don't even own yet! I am hopeful that despite a slow start to the year and the wee one grows bigger he will start sleeping in the evenings and maybe even for propped naps in the day when I can get some painting done. Time will tell and come the end of the year, I will have painted everything or, more likely, I won't have. Either way, the target is set, it's time to get moving!

2025 review

So we're only a couple of months late on this one! After playing catch up with post from last year, it's time to take a look back over last year's resolutions. There were a lot last year, a bit optimistic I think, but given the event of last year, I'm not surprised there are several outstanding.

1) Finish painting Drop Pod

This has been done, and it was done just in time for them releasing a brand new drop pod!

2) Paint Land Raider

Again, this was done, although I do need to go back and add some transfers at some point.

3) Varnish Field Ordnance Battery

Varnished and based, although not yet used in game. I also have some more on route.

4) Quickshade Rough Riders

Another success, all 10 varnished.

5) Varnish additional sisters of battle

Additional models all done and sorted.

6) Paint Subduction squads

Two squads plus extra painted and varnished up.

7) Paint Sanguinary Guard

A full squad of 6 finished, plus some additional characters completed as well!

8) Paint Armiger Helverins

Painted up and transfers completed. I'm not sure though if I've varnished them or not!

9) Paint Emperor's Disciples Blade Guard

All 6 done, alongside some more characters.

10) Paint Sisters Canoness

Two jump canoness painted, varnished and bases.

11-15) as above but varnish models

As mentioned above, all the models have been varnished.

16) Varnish Inquisitorial Agents models

Pretty sure I've done this, but can't actually remember.

17-19) Build, paint and varnish Grey Knights Terminators

Ok, so the first fail of the list, and it's a big fail! I don't actually own these models yet! I am still planning on getting them, but have been holding off due to some rumours of a range refresh.

20-22) Build, paint and varnish Sisters Rhino

Another failure and in the same way, I have yet to actually buy this model, so building and painting are a bit tricky. I do intend on getting the model, it's just a case of when.

23-25) Build, paint and varnish Death Korps Engineers

Three squads and a bit built and primed but not painted yet. Hopefully I will get these painted this year and they will be on the 2026 resolutions list.

26-28) Build, paint and varnish Death Korps Artillery

Another unit that I do not own and as time has passed, I'm not actually sure I want to. I don't think the rules are great and I'm not overly keen on the models. They are nice little diorama pieces in their own right, but there is just something about them that I don't really like.

29-31) Build, paint and varnish Field Ordnance Battery

I have two squads of these on order from Forbidden Planet through the Combat Patrol Magazine. At roughly half price it's a good deal, plus I plan on using a number of the spare bits to finally convert up my Wyverns properly!

32-34) Build, paint and varnish Death Korps heavy weapons squads

I have build and primed two Kreig heavy weapons squads plus I've built an additional heavy weapons squad. I hope to get these painted up this year alongside all the other Krieg units!

35-37) Build, paint and varnish Death Korps Command Squad

I have built, primed and started to paint these models. About half the models are painted but I haven't made any progress in quite a few weeks. Again, I'll hopefully get all these painted up this year.

So, I had quite the list last year. Not sure how I expected to get though all of them with a small person inbound! So how did I actually do? Well 19 and a bit completed out of 37, so just over 50 percent! Not to bad. I think some of them were a bit optimistic as I didn't even own the kits to several and sill don't! Some of them will go on this year's list, some of them will not but there will be more on that in the next post!

All in all, I am pretty happy with the amount of stuff I have done and hopefully can finish off a lot of these this year.

2025 Resolutions

So 2024 has gone and 2025 is here. It hard to imagine that we're a quarter of the way in to the 21st century already! I can still remember all the commotion from the Y2K bug that was going to kill us all! Ok, maybe not kill us all but it was certainly going to cause us no end of bother. Anyway, here we are, and it's time to set some new goals for the coming year.

Firstly, the unfinished tasks from last year;

1) Finish painting Drop Pod

2) Paint Land Raider

3) Varnish Field Ordnance Battery

4) Quickshade Rough Riders

There was a fifth item unfinished last year, but that was varnish then first born Eagle Knights and I'm not to fussed about that one right now, so I'm not going to add it to the list for 2025. There are however a number of tasks that do need need to be added;

5) Varnish additional sisters of battle

This is just three sisters, who will join the rest of the squad to make it a legal composition.

6) Paint Subduction squads

All built and ready to prime, as soon as the weather improves.

7) Paint Sanguinary Guard

Again built and ready to prime, I have a colour scheme in mind for these guys to make them stand out from the rest of the army.

8) Paint Armiger Helverins

Yet another unit that was built over the winter period.

9) Paint Emperor's Disciples Blade Guard

The last unit that was built over the winter that still needs priming and painting.

10) Paint Sisters Canoness

Thee are two models here, both have been started but need quite a bit of work to finish them off.

11-15) as above but varnish models

Ok, so I have bunched a few together here, mostly as it's all the models above that once painted need varnishing to protect them.

16) Varnish Inquisitorial Agents models

This one involves a number of models that are already painted but just need a dip in the quickshade to finish and protect them.

The next few items have been bunched together as most of the involve repeating the same process over and over again just with different models.

17-19) Build, paint and varnish Grey Knights Terminators

Not yet purchased (although I suspect this might turn up as a late Christmas present). Either way they will need building, priming, painting and varnishing.

20-22) Build, paint and varnish Sisters Rhino

Another model that hasn’t been purchased yet, but will be in the new year, or it may wait until my birthday. Either way, I will get one of these this year for my sisters to trundle round in.

23-25) Build, paint and varnish Death Korps Engineers

These haven’t been released yet but when they are I will be looking at getting some of these. I have already spoken to the local supplier for Wargames Atlantic products to see about getting a box of the Grognards to enable me to build extra models from the bits on the box, so hopefully, I should be able to build at least two squads, maybe more with some creative thinking.

26-28) Build, paint and varnish Death Korps Artillery

Another yet to be released. I’m hoping to be able to pick up at least two of these kits, one for the big gun and one for one of the other, rules dependent of course.

29-31) Build, paint and varnish Field Ordnance Battery

I am looking at grabbing a couple more FOB’s from the Combat Patrol magazines, to give me all three options for them. I will get at least one to enable me to build the indirect guns but hopefully I will be able to get two and have a set of each.

32-34) Build, paint and varnish Death Korps heavy weapons squads

Out of all the new DKoK kits, this is the one I am most excited about. Again, I have spoken to the Wargames Atlantic supplier for a box of Grognards Command and Heavy Support to enable me to make extras. I should be able to build three of each weapon, although I might not bother with the lascannons. I am really looking forward to the insane flamers most of all!

35-37) Build, paint and varnish Death Korps Command Squad

Last of the death Korps, the command squad will be necessary to fill out the DKoK force. I am hoping to be able to build at least two squads, with some Grognards kit bashes, one for each of my 20 man DKoK squads.

I think that should be all of my tasks for the next year. I am not as hopeful that will get all of these done this year, as there are some events that may make it very difficult to complete some of them in the time frame, if I manage at all but there will be more on that front in the next month or so.

2024 review

So here we are, another year down and it's time to look back over the year and see how well I did with last year's resolutions.

This year was a year for finishing bits and pieces although, as always, a number of other projects snuck their way in. So what was on the list and what go completed?

1) Paint Eagle Knights first born
All done and dusted, plus a couple of new models that got acquired this year. All the models are painted although not all of them are varnished. So we're one from one so far.

2) Varnish Eagle Knights Rhinos
Done and dusted as well, all six of them. All the models are painted, transfers applied and varnished. These will be getting boxed away with the rest of the Eagle Knights.

3) Quickshade Eagle Knights
And our run is over. As mentioned above, while all the models are painted not all of them are varnished.  I may varnish them all but there is no pressing need, as they will be spending much of the future packed away in the loft.

4) Paint Eagle knights drop pod
This model is still in it's badly primed state. I will need to work in this model in the coming year, as I might look to take it in NI25, alongside the rest of my Eagle Knights.

5) Build Eagle Knights Company Hero's
And we're back on track, all the company hero's are painted, varnished and based and are on display in my cabinet in the front room.

6) Paint Eagle Knights Primaris models
Various models have been done and now I'm on to some more. The only models that I have left to paint are the Sanguinary Guard that I picked up in Orkney this year.

7) Paint Eagle knights Landraider
There has been no progress on this one at all since I did the initial strip down. I will hopefully get around to getting it primed when the weather improves but it will be getting a black paint scheme and joining the Dark Guardians.

8) Paint Dark Guardians first born terminators
Talking of the Dark Guardians, all the terminators got painted this year, along with a couple of extra models that I build from my bits box and some extra bits from eBay.

9) Paint Dark Guardians first born bikes
The remaining Dark Guardians, the bikes, were also finished. Most just needed painting but a few got some extra work done, such as the Ravenwing command squad.

10) Deathwatch transfers
We're on quite a role here! Another one ticked off. All the Deathwatch got a chapter symbol of some description of another. Some models got some additional transfers as well.

At this point we're sitting on 7 tasks complete and 3 still to do.

11) Quickshade Deathwatch infantry
Another task completed. Once all the models has has their transfers, they were given a quick dip in the quick shade. Unfortunately I may have to go back and add a couple more units to the force to maximise the new Imperial Agents codex options!

12) Deathwatch rhinos painted
Two rhinos painted and transfers applied.

13) Deathwatch rhinos varnished
Again, once transfers were applied, both rhinos were given a spray coat of varnish.

14) Deathwatch dreadnoughts varnished
All three Dreadnoughts received a coat of spray varnish, just in time for them to be dropped from the codex! I know they are in the new index but I will only be running Deathwatch in the IA codex form.

15) Paint knight
The big knight has been painted and fully assembled. The arms have been magnetised for maximum versatility.

16) Varnish Knight
Once more the completed knight was sprayed with varnish to protect the paint and transfers.

17) Paint rough riders
The new horsey boys have been completed and have hit the table top on multiple occasions since.

18) Quickshade Rough riders
Our first failure is a while. This has been more due to distractions than an inability to quick shade them. I have a number of models that need doing soon, so I will hopefully get a batch done, including these guys

19) Quickshade scions
The addition scions needed to bring the squads inline with the guard index were completed late 2023 and so the models received their quickshade dip to protect and shade them.

20) Quickshade bulldogs
Another unit that received its quickshade bath this year. The models are completed and ready for the tabletop.

So at the 20 mark were looking good with 16 tasks completed and only 4 that have not been.

21) Quickshade Navy Breachers
Another couple of squads that received their quickshade bath early in the year.

22) FOB varnish
Unfortunately this task was not completed. Part of the reason was procrastinating between spray varnish and quickshade. I would prefer quickshade but it will be significantly easier to spray varnish both models. Once I actually make a decision they will get varnished.

23) Quickshade any other infantry
This one was a bit of a catch all and had no specific completion criteria. However, I consider this.complete as I have varnished a number of units and while there are still some models that need varnishing, non of them were in my possession at the beginning of the year. So what was done under this task?
Stone dragons first born marines, Chaos Kill team, grey knights kill team, sisters of battle kill team (Imperial Agents squad), both Assassins, two Techpriests and servitors, several metal guard models, Space marine scouts squads, Admech skitarii and Ultramarine Veteran squad.

24) Lore update
The last item on the list and while it might not be quite as good as I would like in places, the lore is updated. There will be changes made again as models are purchased, codices are released and my ideas change but for now, it's up to date.

So not a bad year, out of the 24 items on the list 19 tasks have been completed. That only leaves 5 that need carrying over to next year. Most tasks should be fairly quick to get sorted, as they are only varnishing models, only the drop pod and land raider will take some more time but should still be easy to finish.
In addition to the list, there have, as there always are, additional models have been built and painted. There have been some additional sisters built and painted, along with a couple of jump canoness’ built and primed, as well as building two squads of subductors, several Inquisitorial models, a squad of blade guard plus Lieutenant and Captain, Sanguinary Guard plus Captain, two Armigers Helverins and finally build and painted 23 DKoK plus touched up another 20.

So ultimately a successful year! Hopefully next year will be the same!

2024 Resolutions

This year's resolutions will be a bit of a mixed bag. I have decided that this year will be a year of finishing touches more than anything else. There will be a few bigger projects, mostly the ones carried forward from last year but in general there will be a large number of smaller projects to bring things to a close. So, buckle up, this is going to take a while!

1l Paint Eagle Knights first born

This shouldn't be to difficult to do as there is only a squads of assault marines and a command squad left, all pre-primed in orange.

2) Varnish Eagle Knights Rhinos

These are painted ready for some varnish to seal them.

3) Quickshade Eagle Knights

Once the last models are painted up, all the recent additions need to be dipped in Quickshade to seal and protect them.

4) Paint Eagle knights drop pod

One of the acquisition's from earlier this year. Already primed just need finishing off before varnishing

5) Build Eagle Knights Company Hero's

I have 3 AoS Sigmar models to build as my Company Hero's squad. I have most of the parts ready to go, just need to sort a couple of bits, mainly the Heavy Bolter

6) Paint Eagle Knights Primaris models

With the three to build, there are 4 in total that need painting. The extra one is primed orange and ready to go.

7) Paint Eagle knights Landraider

This is a bit of a questionably one actually. Not in terms of needing to paint and finish it, but in terms of which army it will join. At the moment it's the Eagle Knights but it might just find its way in to the Dark Guardians as terminator transport.

8) Paint Dark Guardians first born terminators

Talking of Terminators, here they are. There's quite a few to get painted, and alongside the bikes probably represent the biggest tasks on this list.

9) Paint Dark Guardians first born bikes

To match the terminators, the bikes and attack bikes for the Dark Guardians also need painting up.

 10) Deathwatch transfers

Back to the little projects. I think there is maybe half a dozen guys that need chapter transfers put on. This should be very quick and easy to finish.

11) Quickshade Deathwatch infantry

And once the transfers are done, the models need dipping and protecting.

12) Deathwatch rhinos painted

There are two Rhinos that need painting up to go with the Deathwatch. They also need some new bits as I appear to have misplaced the doors at some point, and being MK1 Rhinos, I'm having trouble finding new ones!

13) Deathwatch rhinos varnished

Again these will need a coat of varnish when they are finished.

14) Deathwatch dreadnoughts varnished

Lastly to finish the Deathwatch off, the three Dreadnoughts need a coat of varnish to keep them safe.

15) Paint knight

He's already built and magnetised ready for priming and painting.

16) Varnish Knight

Once he is painted he will need protecting from all the handling he won't be getting!

17) Paint rough riders

I've not quite finished building these guys yet, halfway through, so they will be done before the new year.

18) Quickshade Rough riders

Again, once painted, they will need protecting

19) Quickshade scions

These are the extra models I had to built after the release of the 9th edition codex and need dipping like all their brethren.

20) Quickshade bulldogs

It's getting quite repetitive now, so I'm sure you get the idea.

21) Quickshade Navy Breachers

Same again

22) FOB varnish

And again, although varnish rather than Quickshade I think.

23) Quickshade any other infantry

This is a bit of a place holder. I do have some marines 6 first born Stone Dragons and 5 Ultramarine Tyrannic War Vets that need dipping and I'm sure there will be others along the way. These will all get added in to here, as and when I find them.

24) Lore update

Finally, the big lore update I've been planning since the Cicatrix Maledictum dropped! I will get around to it at some point, hopefully it will be this year.

So, 24 points to this year's list. That's quite a long list of to do's but many of them will probably coincide with each other, such as the Quickshade dipping and varnishing. I'm not sure if I will get all of these don't this year but I'm hopeful. Much will depend on what happens with jobs and the like but I really want to finish up as many projects as I can this year.

2023 review

As we move from 2023 to 2024 Its time to look back on the year and the hobby resolutions I made almost a year ago. My track record with these things has been average at best and I suspect that this year will continue along similar lines, however, I do find that it is good at keeping things moving in generally the right direction. So what resolutions did I manage to achieve and which did I fail miserably?

So here is the list I wrote for 2023;

1) update Dagr Ormr scions.
Done. All models updated and fully legal, twice! After updating to the new 9th edition guard book the force was tweaked to 10th a d I now actually have too many scions!

2) New guard models
I'll count this one as a yes. I picked up some of the new models, getting gifted some rough riders and field ordnance battery for my birthday and picking up some Wargames Atlantic Bulldogs to proxie as Kasrkins. The FOB and Bulldogs are completed and the rough riders are waiting for a coat of primer.

3) Eagle Knights first born
Yes and no. All the original models I had for the Knights first born have been painted but after acquiring some additional models mind year, I have not finished painting these up. I still have an assault squad and command squad (I think?) plus land raider and drop pod to finish.

4) Dark Guardians first born
This is a definite no. I have t even started to look at these guys yet. They are ready waiting but I have not even touched one model

5) No new models
Sort of? I didn't actually purchase any new models, just a bunch of second hand ones. So I guess that it will fall in to the failed category? In my defense, it was a bargain I couldn't refuse and I gained some good models.

6) lore update
Unfortunately this is a no. This was one I was really hoping to get done this year but for various reasons I just haven't managed to get this sorted. The lore for all my armies and the general narrative for my forces does need a good reworking and general tidy up. I'll put this on the list for next year and see if I can actually achieve it.

7) play some games
Again, yes and no. I initially thought that this was going to be a straight no, as I didn't think I would have played 12 games this year. It turns out I have played 13 games! So yes, I have played at least 12 games, unfortunately only 9 of them were at the 2000 point mark, the other 4 being at or around 1000 points. Most of these games (8 of them) were thanks to the two tournaments I played in this year! Either way, I'm going to count this as a yes!

So, overall I have actually achieve 3 of these completely, 2 of them sort of and I failed at 2 of them. I don't think that this is two bad really, better than some years, maybe even my best year yet (haven't actually checked!) There's a couple that will be carried forward to next year, hopefully to completion this time!

2023 resolutions

So as we move in to 2023, it is time to set some new resolutions. It's getting harder to set resolutions every year as I complete them every year. There are still a few bit and pieces that I can put on the list, a couple are new options and some are ones that have been on lists many many years ago.

So here is my list for 2023;

1) update Dagr Ormr scions.
With the new codex release, I have been forced to add some additional troops to the units to make them codex compliant. Getting these done and sorted is first on the list and is currently underway.

2) New guard models
Again with the new codex, comes some new models. I plan on getting some Field Ordinance Batteries and rough riders but not much else. If I go for Kasrkins, I'll probably get a box of troops from Wargames Atlantic.

3) Eagle Knights first born
Going back a bit in time here, but with completing all my armies, or at lead complete until any updates needed with the new codex, I have dug out my first born marine armies and I plan on finishing them off. So first up are the Eagle Knights, which are actually fairly complete. I will need to go through it and see what's what theses days as I have nicked a couple of models out for kill teams and the like but on the whole they are pretty complete with the majority of models already painted. I don't think that this will take a significant amount of time to compete.

4) Dark Guardians first born
Again, this has been pulled out of state to get painted, however, this army is very much just primer with little to no actually painted models. This is going to take a significant amount of time to paint up, although being black primed and black based, I can go straight in to details. This will be the lowest priority on the list this year, so may end up spilling over into next year as well.

5) No new models
Simple one really, I don't plan on buying any new models apart from those mention above. I have a feeling I may receive a few for my birthday this year, as it's a "big" one bit I won't buy any new models.

6) lore update
This is one I really need to do as the lore hasn't been updated for a couple of years despite there being a few changes to models and armies. I need to sit down and bring everything back into line with each other. The trouble is this will take a bit of time to do and I rarely get time to actually sit down at the computer and write, mostly just snatching a few minutes here and there over a cuppa or at one of the kids clubs to write.

7) play some games
I have tried this in the past and failed, mostly through my own lack of effort but I will try again. I want to play at least 12 2000 point games this year and hopefully some smaller ones as well.

So there it is, mostly it's just going back and finishing my old marine forces and updating a few bits to the new guard codex, which all sounds simple but we shall see. I hope to be able to get at least half of these completed by the end of the year.

2022 review

As we move from 2022 to 2023 it is time to look back at all the objectives that I set myself at the beginning of the year and see if I have been able to complete many of them. Last year I set myself a fairly easy list of things to do, in order to break the cycle of failing the majority of them! I have also made more of an effort to paint in the evenings this year, rather than just collapse on the sofa in front of the TV. This has made quite a difference in think, in terms of how many models I have managed to get painted.

1) kill team.

I had a number of kill teams that have been on several to do list over then last few years and I have finally got around to finishing quite a few of these!

a) Deathwatch - painted a whole kill team roster plus several more models to complete a 2000 point plus army. Some of the army was already pre-painted but still, all Deathwatch models are now painted with just a couple of transfers needing applying before varnishing them.

b) Tyranids - the only kill team not finished. This is because I decided to wait until a proper bespoke team was released, rather than paint a team and then have to repaint it as a bespoke team.

c) Sisters - all done, including some addition models to act as count as sisters to bring them inline with the new rules.

d) Scout Marines - done ready to varnish

e) Chaos - sort of done. The original chaos team was binned and the new legionary team constructed, built and painted.

f) DKoK - these are half finished. One box of 10 is painted and done (by my son) the other 10 are built and primed ready for him to paint, but he's been busy building and painting his Tau recently.

g) Ork Commandos - all done ready for varnish.

In addition I have also built and painted a GSC wyrmblade cult list and a 10k sons Warp coven list, which were not on the cards at the start of the year.

So despite building and painting all these teams, I haven't actually played a single competitive game of kill team this year!

Anyway, I'm counting this as a pass!

2) No new models (with the caveat that when the new guard codex dropped I'd buy at least 60 conscripts, 20 scions and 3 or 4 taurox's.)

Well, I have actually managed to stick to this one, as long as you take the caveat in to account! So the new guard codex hasn't technical dropped yet, but I have brought a box of models that I use as scions. With the changes to the new codex I will no longer be buying the conscripts but will instead look at the new Field Ordinance Batteries, which i will likely get two of. As for the taurox's I will have to see as I do plan on getting something but I'm not sure they will be taurox's.

I think that this has sto go down as a pass!

3) Paint Marines

Done, done and done, with a majority of them also varnished. All 1000+ points of the Eagle Knights, 500+ points of Dark Guardians, Emperor's Disciples, Brazen Hawks and Stone Dragons have been completed. At this point I have no primaris marine or dreadnoughts left to paint. I have a number of first born marines left to paint that are in storage and I will probably look at getting these out of storage and painting up at some point this year.

So this is definitely a pass!

4) Catachan characters

So I got gifted Marbo and I brought Harker and Straken with the Warhammer+ voucher. I have painted these three models up and actually spent a lot more time on these models than I have spent on pretty much any other.models I own. All three are now painted and varnished.

Another pass!

5) Knights

These two got a very basic but decent tabletop paint job. They are now ready to play after several years sitting on the shelf.

Another pass!

6) AdMech

I wasn't sure I would get around to this one, as it was low on the list but having done the two baby Knights I was glad that I was able to get it done. They still need varnishing but they are painted, giving me the option to field a 1000+ point force of AdMech and possibly build towards a bigger force with a knight or two in.

Yet again this is a pass!

7) Update pages

This is something I have been meaning to do for a while. There has been several changes to the lore surrounding my forces and there will be a couple more coming up with the changes to the guard codex and reworking my armies, as well as bringing my son's Tau and his friends Necrons in to the picture. However, I have not actually started on any of this yet! I will try again this year, and with less models to paint up, I might actually get around to it!

This is the only fail on the list.

Along side all of these bits I have also worked on a couple of other projects, such as additional inquisitors and retinue, sorting the Ork kill team terrain,

So there you have it, six out of seven completed! This is the best result I think I have had for my resolutions list and I'm quite proud of what I have managed to achieve this year. Now I just have to work on next year's list!

2022 resolutions

Last week I looked back through my resolutions from 2021 and surprisingly, I did quite well with them! Well, this is a new year and a new list is required, now normally this is just the previous years list adjusted to take account of what has been done but this year I've had to actually think about it as I managed to do quite a bit last year. These are not in any sort of order, so I will highlight the ones that are more important than others.

1) kill team.

I have combined all the kill team stuff in to one point this year. Some of these have been on the list for several years and keep getting pushed back in favour of other projects. Well this year I intend to get some of them done! There are a number of teams that need painting;

a) Deathwatch

b) Tyranids

c) Sisters

d) Scout Marines

e) Chaos

f) DKoK

g) Ork Commandos

I don't intend on adding to this list, as there are not many more factions that I actually want for kill team, the only one that I can think of is Talons with Custodies and Sisters of Silence, but I do not intend on getting them any time soon. I don't know how many of these I will get painted but I intend to get some of them done at least.

2) No new models*

Ok, so I will not buy any new models this year*.

* Ok, so there is a little caveat. I have mentioned a few time my intention to add conscripts and additional scions to my Dagr Ormr force once the new guard codex comes out. I still intend to do this and when the codex is out and I have checked to see if there are any changes that would.impact my force I will buy at least 60 conscripts, 20 scions and 3 or 4 taurox's. I will however, not be buying anything else.

3) Paint Marines

I am currently working on the Dark Guardians (DA successor) and am over half way through. I still have a number of Eagle Knights (BA successors) to paint. In addition, I have a contemptor dread and iron clad dread to paint. These are going to be the main focus for the first part of the year.

4) Catachan characters

So I have the three Catachan characters to paint up. Honestly I don't know if I will get around to it but it would be nice to get them done.

5) Knights

I have two Armiger Warglaives sitting in a box half primed, waiting for a proper paint job. I know roughly what I want to do with them but have yet to get around to it. These are fairly low on the priority list but I might do a few bits and pieces with them if I need a break from other projects.

6) AdMech

I brought the later version on the start collecting box, before it changed to the new combat patrol boxes. I brought this to take my AdMech force up to the 500 point mark and to make it possible to field a codex compliant force, something I couldn't with the changes to the codex. This is however, the lowest priority for this year's to do list and I will only get around to this if I have nothing else to do, which I suspect will not be the case.

7) Update pages

This is something I have been meaning to do for a while but never quite get around to. The whole site really needs an over haul and update but the pages especially, since there have been quite a few changes to the lore \ fluff of my army \ forces. It has been over 5 years since I started blogging and it's evident in some areas of the blog. I hope that I can do the updates when I'm round and about and not able to paint or model but then I have been able to do that for the last couple of years and haven't managed to actually do it, so we will see what happens!

So there it is, my list for this year. I think I should be able to compete at least half of them again this year but we will have to see what happens. Wish me luck!

2021 review

Another year has gone by and it's time to take stock of the years hobby progress, or more specifically the resolutions I set this time last year. Most years I have struggled to meet the majority of my resolutions, so we'll see how we get on this year;

1) complete my deathwatch kill team.

So, first point and first failure. With the changes to kill team this year, most of my teams have had some.major reshuffles and while the Deathwatch got off lightly, they were still impacted. I will try and get these finished this year, once I have finished all my other 40k marine forces. I still intend to get these up to a high(ish) standard, hopefully I can follow through with that bit as well.

2) paint and base terrain.

Smashed this one! Most of the MDF terrain is primed and painted with texture paint, there are just 2 buildings left to do. These are primed, I just haven't got around to taping up the windows and stuff before spraying with the stone chip paint. I have also done a load of scatter terrain for kill team plus containers. The only things I haven't done are the plant scatter terrain. I have the MDF sheets and I did cut some test templates out and painted them but haven't stuck any of the plants on yet.

3) complete chaos kill team.

Again, no. I haven't even touched these guys, as again, there have been a lot of changes to the team. I will hopefully get these painted up this year but they have dropped in priority.

4) complete marine scout kill team

Yet more kill team and yet more broken resolutions. Again, these might get some painting this year but they are low on the list still.

5) prime and one colour base coat primaries marines

Done, done and done! Not only have they all been primed and based but three of the armies have been fully painted, another is half painted and still currently on the paint table.

6) paint up the remainder of the Dagr Ormr Militarum Tempestus force.

Done as well. These were done right at the beginning of the year. While they do need a dip in the quick shade still, I am counting these as done. The force will be expanded when when the new guard codex comes out, as I will adding a whole bunch of conscripts to the force.

7) get as much of the Hrossey Yeomanry primed and base coated as possible.

These are primed, based and finished! I have completed the whole army now, all the tanks and other vehicles have been painted up along side all the troops. I don't think that this force will be added to very much, so it is now fully painted and complete.

8) paint up Tyranid kill team

While I haven't done much with these guys, but I have figured out the colour scheme, which means that they have had more attention that all the other kill teams combined. I plan on painting these guys up this year, even if the team is technically no playable as I'm a warrior short still.

9) necrons

So all of these are now finished. All painted up, including some addition models that we got during the year. I don't think that there will be any more additions to the force for a while as these are my son's army and he is more interested in Star Wars at the moment.

In addition to all these resolutions, I have also finished off all of the Hjaltland Light Infantry that I had, which wasn't much but it's all done. I have also started to paint up my Blood Angels successors, with over 500 points painted. In addition to all of this I have built all of the new Kill Team Octarius DKoK, although these are not painted yet as I'm waiting for the individual DKoK boxset to be released to finish the team. So all told, I think this has been a very successful year, mostly I would say due to several weeks in bed at the beginning of the year, thanks to a broken leg. I have managed to achieve 5 out of the 9 tasks I set myself, which compared to previous years is pretty good! I would hope that I could continue this momentum in to next year but I suspect that I would be able to sustain the same level of progress. Next up my plans for the year ahead and this year's resolutions.

New year resolutions 2021

Last week I looked back through my resolutions from last year and commented on how badly I did with them. Well, this is a new year and a new list is requited and when I say new list, what I mean is last year's list with a couple of changes. These are not in any sort of order, so I will highlight the ones that are more important than others.

1) complete my deathwatch kill team.

This has been on the list for a year at least and I really want to get these done, however I think that these will take a while as they are quite detailed and I want to do them justice and really make the most of them. Maybe they will get done towards the end of the year.

2) paint and base terrain.

Having played a couple of small, combat patrol games with my son and his new necrons, this is definitely a priority for me. I think I will be cheating and buying some silver spray for doing some of the parts and just slapping on a few highlights and the building will be getting a coat of gray primer and then a texture coat to finish and job done. Again, with lockdown and the kids this won't be as simple as it sounds.

3) complete chaos kill team.

Kill teams in general are sort of on the back burner for the moment but not forgotten at all. I still have a plan for these guys and I intend to carry it out but it maybe towards the end of the year before they see the paint table.

4) complete marine scout kill team

Again, low on the list of priorities but they are simple to paint and I have some done already, so if infancy a change of pace at all, these maybe the go to models.

5) prime and one colour base coat primaries marines

This will be the next project on the paint table after my current one. I don't intend on getting these fully painted, just primed and single colour based, so that I can define who forms what chapter and squad. This will mean that I could use them in games without getting to confused as to who was who.

6) paint up the remainder of the Dagr Ormr Militarum Tempestus force.

On the paint table as we speak and progressing well. They are all primed, based and have their squad marking on, now they just need the rest of them painting up! This is quite a simple scheme so, in theory, shouldn't take too long to do. Hopefully, If I keep going at the speed I'm going, this project will be finished by the end of Feb!

7) get as much of the Hrossey Yeomanry primed and base coated as possible

This is also something I'm keep to do this year and will mean that I will finish all my current guard armies. These are only a few troops and it's mostly vehicles, so I really don't know how long it will take to paint up.

8) paint up Tyranid kill team

This is something I'm keen to do even though it's a kill team as these guys are really my son's models. The scheme is simple and I'm not aiming for much detail on them, just basic colours, so he's not playing with grey plastic models.

9) necrons

So with the new toys for Christmas, there are new items on the list, in this case, necrons. These will also be a simple paint job, black primer, grey/silver dry brush and then highlights in various colours depending upon units and rank.

So that's it, not to long a list but we'll see how it goes. I do have plans to add a few more bits, namely more Eisenkern Panzerjagers and some death fields cannon fodder models, both from wargames atlantic. I may also add some transport to the Dagr Ormr but that will depend on what happens with the new Guard Codex when it gets here.

2020 review

So 2021 has started pretty much as 2020 ended, with most of us stuck inside for the foreseeable future, it's time to look back on 2020's hobby aims and resolutions. This time is went back over all the previous years and combined any outstanding hobby goals into a single list, with the aim of polishing off all the outstanding items. Needless to say I didn't anticipate what a year 2020 would become, nor did I anticipate several months of home schooling. This plus a toddler who's a complete night owl (like his father), my hobby time went from little to none!

Anyway I did manage a few bits here and there, so I did manage to Rick one or two boxes! Let's see how badly I did;

1) complete my deathwatch kill team.

Nope. First item on the list and I haven't touched them at all. I haven't even primed the 5 vanguard vets I built.

2) paint and base terrain.

This was supposed to be a side project, to be done while the wee one slept. However, when the wee one slept, I've been dealing with the big two. Therefore only two small bits got painted, but not based! Maybe next year?

3) complete chaos kill team.

Again, nothing got done with these guys. The plan still stands, I just haven't go started with it yet.

4) complete marine kill team.

Now this one went a little better than the rest;

a) scout team

Cleaned, primed and 3 models completed. The rest should be easy to do, as the scheme is simple and there's not a huge amount of details on the models.

b) Blood Angels

Half way through the list and we've finally got a completed item! Yes, I cheated by using some pre-painted models but it's done!

c) Dark Angels

Two in a row now, we're on a roll! Yep, the team is painted and done. Another Pat on the back for me!

d) Space Wolves

Would you believe it but we're up to three! That's right, another item ticked off the list. This team is all painted and ready as well.

5) Marneus Calgar.

And there goes that roll, crashing to a stop just as we were getting going. Calgar is still in raw grey plastic, although he is in a shiny new KR foam tray! He's also been joined by a number of new primaris brothers but more on that in anothet post.

6) paint up the remainder of the Dagr Ormr Militarum Tempestus force.

These are currently on the paint table ready and raring to go. I just have to remix the paint and hope that it's not to far off the original colour. Also, I airbrushed the first lot but will be painting this second batch, so we'll have to see how that changes things as well.

7) get as much of the Hrossey Yeomanry primed and base coated as possible.

These haven't been touched either but they will be up next after the Dagr Ormr MT force.

So maybe not as successful as I would have liked but I also have a number of other boxes ticked that aren't on this list, for most amongst this list is the completion on the Hjaltland LI. All the extra models have been painted and sorted. Also, I have built and painted a test model for my tyranids kill team. I have also purchased and build the Marines from Shadowspear, Dark Imperium and the recruit and elite started packs.

2020 resolutions

So, I've been through last year's resolutions and all the previous ones and this year I've set myself the target of clearing all the backlog from previous years. Whether I manage to achieve this target is anyone guess, however given previous years, I doubt it!

1) complete my deathwatch kill team.

This is definitely priority number one on the list. I will try and concentrate on this first before moving to other items on my list but that might change depending upon time I get to hobby.

2) paint and base terrain.

This is number two on the list as it should be something I can do in bits and pieces, spray a bit of terrain here, cut a board there type of thing. As it's not a sit down and concentrate sort of job, I can do it on the fly at a moment's notice.

3) complete chaos kill team.

I've started this and have a clear plan. They were not supposed to be started before the Deathwatch we're finished but you know how these things go sometimes.

4) complete marine kill team.

Now this one is a little more complicated that the rest as technically it's 4 things not just one;

a) scout team

I need to finish cleaning (don't ask me how long the models have been in the jar of detol), priming and painting these boys.

b) Blood Angels

Surprisingly close to being finished, as only 1 models needs painting. Ok, so I cheated slightly here and used some models from the Eagle Knights army in had already painted but still......

c) Dark Angels

The models are primed and ready to go, some already have some paint on but only very basic splodges of colour here and there.

d) Space Wolves

I thing two models have some colour on but on the whole these need the most work of the three chapter specific teams

5) Marneus Calgar.

Paint up Calgary and his retinue. So 3 primaris Marines and 2 guards plus Calgary himself. The apothecary is already done (by previous owner I might add)

6) paint up the remainder of the Dagr Ormr Militarum Tempestus force.

We'll see about this one, even if I just get them primed I will be happy!

7) get as much of the Hrossey Yeomanry primed and base coated as possible.

Shouldn't take much as I think there is only about 2 commanders, a vet squad and a special weapons squad to paint. But then I said there wasn't many models to paint last year and I didn't manage that!

So, not an exhaustive list but there 8s still quite a bit on there to do. I recon there are 90 models to paint before we get to the last two items, which will have at least the same again to do. I really do t know how much time I will get this year but I hope it will be more than last year, fingers crossed either way!

2019 review

It's that time of year again, time to look back over the past year and see what I've managed to achieve and how well I did with my 2019 resolutions. This year there have been some big changes, with the arrival of child and with the wife being on maternity leave, plus changing shifts from nights to evenings. This meant that I eventually ended up with both more and less hobby time. In the beginning I had more hobby time at night, when the big kids were asleep and the wife was out dancing with the little one. Later, when the wee one went on to a bottle, he was left he with me and as such my limited hobby time disappeared completely. As such I've barely touched a brush in months.

So what did I actually achieve from my 2019 resolutions?

1) complete my deathwatch kill team.

There has been very little progress on this one. The only thing that has changed is Elites and the addition of 5 vanguard vets. So there has been a bit of silver painted, mostly the silver arms and that's it. So this is most definitely a fail.

2) complete my inquisitorial\scions kill team.

Done! Yep, got this one done pretty early on and have been played a couple of games with these guys.  There not done to the standard I had hoped to get them to but I figured 8t was better to have them done and finished than dragging out waiting for the dinner details to get done.

3) complete AdMech kill team.

Almost done. I say almost as the painting is done, all I need to do is to quickshade the models. Again, they are not quite as detailed as I wanted but they are done and finished, so I'm happy.

4) paint and base terrain.

Well, I sprayed up one test model. Pretty much just sprayed up grey, which is fine and I plan on trimming some bases and flocking them. All very simple but hopefully effective, anyway, that's going to have to roll over until next year now.

5) finish building my custom storage trays.

Kind of. My custom kill team storage trays are built but not my 40k ones. I plan on actually building another set for kill team, one for each of my teams but the 40k ones have pretty much been put on hold for the moment, as the main focus of them was for the various Marines armies and they have also been put on hold, hence not much need for proper storage trays. So I'm counting this one's a half done and the other half as no longer necessary.

6) complete chaos kill team.

Started but nowhere near finished. I've started the cultists and have a plan for the Marines but not had anytime to complete them lately, hopefully they will be completed next year!

7) complete marine kill team.

Well this one's has gone up and down several times over the year. First it went down to just a scout based kill team, then it went up and down and finally back up to the current level. At the moment were at a full scout team and three 10 man Marine teams, a BA, a DA and a SW team.  Only the BA team is anywhere near complete, with only 1 model to paint, the rest however shouldn't take too long to finish next year!

8) Marneus Calgar.

This model is a year old now and has finally be built (in the last month or two!) The idea for the force is not complete as well, and will form part of a supreme command detachment with a primaris captain, two lieutenants, the two guard and either an apothecary, ancient or champion, or possibly a small honour guard. Currently I'm leaning towards the apothecary, to keep Calgar going a bit longer.

So, there were 8 objectives this year and I managed to complete 3. Ok, so I did manage to complete 3 of the 4 main objectives and made a start on most of the others. I managed to paint up 39 models out of the 60 main ones I wanted to paint, with the 21 others being started but not finished. So, all in all, I don't think I've done to badly. Next year's objectives will continue on from this lot with only a few additions.

With 2019's list done, let's have a little look further back.

2018 had a number of outstanding items.

¹) paint up the remainder of the Dagr Ormr Militarum Tempestus force.

Still not done, not even primed.

³) finish building my jungle plant terrain.

This item has been on every list for the last couple of years and was on last year's and will be on this year's. As there is little point repeating the same item every year, I'm going to scrub all previous entries from the various lists.

⁴) get pictures of the complete hjaltland LI and Eagle Knights.

Still not done and the Eagle Knights have been packed up for storage, so probably won't get done for them. I have an almost complete picture for the Hjaltland LI so that's good enough for me. Marking this as done.

5) get as much of the Hrossey Yeomanry and Dark Guardians primed and base coated as possible.

Dark Guardians have been primed and sort of base coated (both being black!) and packed up for storage. The Hrossey Yeomanry have mostly been primed with the exception of a couple of models, so I'm gonna called this one done.

6) update my narratives, taking in to account the 8th edition universe.

I have done this a bit but I should do more. This should be a rolling thing, so I'm gonna call this one done.

8) add in new models, ogryns bodyguard's and MT transports.

The ogryn, or rather bullgryns as they actually are, have been built and added to forces, however, no more models are going to be added to anymore 40k armies. My focus this year, as last, will be on kill team. So I'm also calling this one done.

From 2017, there were 3 outstanding resolutions:

1) table terrain and gaming surface. Having just got a mat and mdf terrain for Christmas, I need  to get on with building and painting the terrain.

As mentioned above, I'm scrubbing all there separate entries for terrain.

6) finalize a list for the Dark Guardians.

With the dark Guardians being parked for the foreseeable future, I'm scrubbing this one off the list.

9) sort out my storage, I have cases but no storage trays. Empty cases are pretty useless.

As mentioned above, a rejig in priorities means this is not relevant anymore and so I'm scrubbing this too.

From 2015 and 2016 there are no outstanding resolutions!

So, all in all  not to bad. I think I can scrub quite a few things off the list this year, both from last year's list and also from previous lists. The resolutions for this coming year will consist of all the remaining items from all the previous years to try and wipe the slate clean and start a fresh.

2019 resolutions

As always, at the beginning of the year, I set myself some hobby resolutions to go alone side my new year's resolutions. I say along side but I don't actually think I've set myself any new years resolutions for several years, just hobby ones! This year is going to see quite a few changes to life, with the arrival shortly of child no.3 and my wife being on maternity leave. Whether this translates into more hobby time or less is unknown, although with all the house renovations that need doing, I suspect less hobby time will be the result. As such, this year's resolutions will be very brief!

So what are they going to be?

1) complete my deathwatch kill team. I've started this (WIP shots to follow soon) but have a long way to go. I will be spending a fair bit of time on each model, more than I have on any previous marine model I've painted, so it might take some time to finish all 20 models.

2) complete my inquisitorial\scions kill team. These have been named "the black widows" by my son and shall be forevermore. These will be getting similar treatment to the deathwatch and will be receiving extra attention. They have been started and there are a few models that are almost complete and all the others have there black base coat done and fleshy parts started. These will form one of my main kill teams along side the guard and deathwatch.

3) complete AdMech kill team. These have been primed ready but will probably not get the same level of detail as the deathwatch or Scions.

4) paint and base terrain. For this I want to properly base my MDF building on to some MDF board and paint them, just quick and dirty spray can jobs. I also want to finish my jungle terrain, as I have the bits for it, I just have to actually do it.

5) finish building my custom storage trays. Again, I've started this and have all the plans sorted, I just need to cut and glue the together.

6) complete chaos kill team. This is not a priority and is more just because I have a roster sorted for some of the chaos models I have lying around. If it gets done it will be a quick paint job, just to get colour on to them.

7) complete marine kill team. Again, this is not a priority and I don't even have all the models sorted. This is more in here as I have plans for a team and I have actually purchased some of the extra models I needed, namely a bunch of scouts but in reality, this is not something I'm bothered about getting on the table top any time soon.

8) Marneus Calgar. I was brought the new model for Christmas and while I don't collect ultrasmurfs at all, I would like to paint this guy up in all his glory. I'll paint up a few other models as ultrasmurfs as well, enough to form a supreme command detachment but that's it. When I do get around to painting Calgar up, I will spend quite a bit of time on him, as if your going to paint up someone as important as as the Ultrasmurfs chapter master, you might as well do it properly.

While there are quite a few items on the list, quite a few of them are fairly small. The Kill teams are only 20 models each, meaning that i'm looking at painting up a minimum of 60 models this year, maybe up to 110, so I think its achievable. 60 models is less than I have tried in previous years. We'll see how I go but a lot will depend upon the new arrival.

A review of 2018

So 2019 is here and has been for a few weeks now and 2018 is sliding in to history, so it's time to look back over the last year and see how the hobby has done.

For 2018 I set didn't set too many goals, having learnt from previous years that I never achieve all of them but how many did I achieve in 2018?

Let's look through my objectives for 2018 shall we:

¹) paint up the remainder of the Dagr Ormr Militarum Tempestus force. - this has been started and a colour scheme for the PDF that accompany and support the scions has been chosen. Well, this didn't get done, although it wasn't a total failure. All of the PDF heavy weapons teams have been completed and that includes basing them. The PDF vets haven't been done and the remainder of the Dagr Ormr are still grey plastic. I might try again next year to complete them but they may well be on the back burner for a bit.

²) find a suitable base material for all my forces. - i think i have settled on one of the army painter battlefields scatters for the main part, i just need to take the plunge and do it. Done. I took the plunge and I think it matches my battle Matt pretty well. I have based up all of my hjaltland light infantry and also my PDF heavy weapons squads. I want to do my Eagle Knights but I need to quick shade them first.

³) finish building my jungle plant terrain. - need MDF boards and plaster mix, oh and time. Got the boards and plaster, just haven't had the time. Still on the plan, just down sized for kill team at the moment.

⁴) get pictures of the complete hjaltland LI and Eagle Knights. - as my first and second fully painted armies ever, this is something i really want to do.  Yes, the Hjaltland are finished and based, the eagle knights are painted, just need some quickshade soft tone before I can base them.  As for pictures, well, not quite yet. It's finding the time to get all the units layed out on the table and photograph all of them with my big camera and flash. I still really want to do this, to showcase the armies, but I'm just happy that there all painted right now.

5) get as much of the Hrossey Yeomanry and Dark Guardians primed and base coated as possible. - these are the next two armies to be painted after the Dagr Ormr, with Hrossey being the first of the two. Well, I've kind of done this. There all primed ready but the Guardians need some work on the addition units I gained this year, namely the attack bikes and extra ravenwing bikes. The Hrossey are all primed and ready to paint.

6) update my narratives, taking in to account the 8th edition universe. - the setting and armies all need updating, but especially the Dark Guardians and Eagle Knights, in light of there respective codices. I think I need to do some more work on this, even though I did update the narrative at the beginning of the year. Hopefully I get some time to sit down and update it again, especially now I've changed ideas and plans with the release of kill team.

7) finish off my inquisitorial warband. - a fluff thing more than anything, but will help to tie things together. Still working on this and there have been some changes as well. With the change in rules for inquisitors and warbands I had to update things and with the release of kill team, I've updated things even further, as the warband is now a kill team, although still 40k legal.

8) add in new models, ogryns bodyguard's and MT transports. - shiny new models are always fun, but bodyguard's are new to the codex and the scions have been waiting for transport your ages. ( Come on anvil industries, where are the Taipan APC's you showed us?) Well, ogryn bodyguards are modelled and half painted, not sure when they'll get the other half painted but there there. As for MT transports, I'm still no further along. I still don't like the Taurox and Anvil don't seem to have made any progress on there Tiapan. Still keep an eye out for alternatives, but nothing so far.

Well, I think that went rather well. I got a fair bit painted up, more that I expected but I still didn't complete everything on the list. With the release of kill team last year, my focus has been shifted completely from 40k and so I've had less enthusiasm to batch paint dozens of models at a time and have been enjoying being more creative with individual models, even for guard forces. I plan on completing all the outstanding armies at some point or another but right now, that seems like it's a long way off.

In addition to the 2018 goals, there were still some outstanding ones from previous years, let's see if any of them got completed.

From 2017, there were 3 outstanding resolutions:

1) table terrain and gaming surface. Having just got a mat and mdf terrain for Christmas, I need  to get on with building and painting the terrain! These are still in the as built stage, no paint but still lots of plans. I hoping to get at least some of them done this year, enough to form a battle zone for kill team.

6) finalize a list for the Dark Guardians. While the list has been rejigged for 8th, I picked up a bunch more models. As a result the list is 99% finalized, it's just about whether I can do the conversions I need to in order to use the list properly. So I'm counting this as finally done.

9) sort out my storage, I have cases but no storage trays. Empty cases are pretty useless. I am in the process of rectifying this issue. A short while ago, I purchased a large price of foam from the local soft furnishings shop and have started to turn them in to storage trays. While softer that the KR foam, it is working well so far but again, it's about getting time to actually finished the project.

From 2016 there are no outstanding resolutions! For 2015 though, there was 1 left:

2) Base coat all vehicles, should be easy with an air brush! I've got a few done, but need to get the rest sorted. I'll try and get some of the details done as well. - So, this is now all done. All vehicles are primed and base coated in one form or another. There are 2 LRBT's that need a second coat but apart from that there all done and this resolution is cleared!

So, all in all not bad. I'm getting there with all the outstanding resolutions, with 2015 and 2016 cleared and 2017 reduced to just 2, both of which are being worked on and will hopefully be cleared by the end of this year. The 2018 goals have gone pretty well, with a few completed and many others a good way along. Next up will be 2019's resolutions, which will have to be pretty simple if I'm to stand any chance of completing them!

2018 Resolutions

With 2017 gone and 2018 upon us, its time to set some goals for this year. While there were a few points that were left outstanding from last year, i will only be looking to carry over two points. These will join a number of new points.

¹) paint up the remainder of the Dagr Ormr Militarum Tempestus force. - this has been started and a colour scheme for the PDF that accompany and support the scions has been chosen.

²) find a suitable base material for all my forces. - i think i have settled on one of the army painter battlefields scatters for the main part, i just need to take the plunge and do it.

³) finish building my jungle plant terrain. - need MDF boards and plaster mix, oh and time.

⁴) get pictures of the complete hjaltland LI and Eagle Knights. - as my first and second fully painted armies ever, this is something i really want to do.

5) get as much of the Hrossey Yeomanry and Dark Guardians primed and base coated as possible. - these are the next two armies to be painted after the Dagr Ormr, with Hrossey being the first of the two.

6) update my narratives, taking in to account the 8th edition universe. - the setting and armies all need updating, but especially the Dark Guardians and Eagle Knights, in light of there respective codices.

7) finish off my inquisitorial warband. - a fluff thing more than anything, but will help to tie things together.

8) add in new models, ogryns bodyguard's and MT transports. - shiny new models are always fun, but bodyguard's are new to the codex and the scions have been waiting for transport your ages. ( Come on anvil industries, where are the Taipan APC's you showed us?)

So, not as many points as last year, you'll notice i dropped the one about selling stuff!, but still a few things to do. This year will possibly see a few changes to my hobby, as the young lady is starting nursery this year and this may give me a little bit of time to indulge myself in the odd afternoon of painting.

2017 Review

Its that time of year again, time to look back over the past year and more and see how badly I have do on my resolutions that I set this time last year!

So first up we'll look back at the 2017 list, then we'll step even further back and see how we have done with previous years.

so 2017:

1) the main painting objective this year will be the Eagle Knights. I would like to get all the models based orange at the very least. Well, I think I smashed this one, seeing as the last model was painted on around the 20th December, although none of them are based properly as i'm still trying to figure out what basing to use!

2) table terrain and gaming surface. Having just got a mat and mdf terrain for Christmas, I need  to get on with building and painting the terrain! Well, there built, so that's a start. I do need to get on with painting them, then they'll look even better on the table top.

3) base my finished models in relation to my new mat. So some sort of green flock is needed. Yeah, still trying to decide what to do here, I think that I just really need to take the plunge and actually do it.

4) defend my title at Northern Invasion 5. Unfortunatly, I didn't make it down this year. However I did make the Xmas tournament this year and took that title home instead, so that makes me feel better about missing NI5.

5) sell off models. Mainly my extra guard models and most of the Emperors Diciples. Er, yeah, this has been on every years list and I have yet to sell a single model. I really should sell the ones that I don't need or want, but for some reason I just never seem to get around to it. I will do it this year, I promise!

6) finalize a list for the Dark Guardians. Kind of, I have decided that they are only going to be a bike and terminator force, with no other units. Although with the recent release of the 8th DA codex I will probably need to re jig things again.

7) model up the dark guardians Again, I have done this, but I may have to change things to fit the new 8th Codex. There still a way down the list this year, as I want to get my Scions and Armour painted this year.

8) crack out the airbrush and prime some models! Goes with (1) I really cant say when my airbrush last came out to play. I really need to get it out and use it, especially with the Scions, who are all airbrushed so far.

9) sort out my storage, I have cases but no storage trays. Empty cases are pretty useless. I think if anything, that my storage has actually got worse! I really need to sort out some more KR trays or similar, as at the moment some of my models are literally just piled in to one of the KR boxes.

10) when/if I sell off models (5), I will use the money to purchase new transport for the Dagr Ormr and extra models for the dark guardians, if needed. Now models sold and no new models bought this year. I will be buying a couple of models this year, as there are a couple of units in the new codex that I want, namely Ogryn Bodyguards.

11) add to the fluff. This applies to all my forces. I've got plenty of ideas, just need to get pen to paper. I added some fluff at the start of last year and I need to do the same to bring all the fluff in line with the latest 8th edition fluff. They all need updating for the Rift but the Knights need updateing after the devastation of Baal and the Guardian after the fighting at the Rock.

So, all in all, not to bad. I have completed or at least stuck to over half of my resolutions this year. I would consider this year to be a success overall, as i have achieved all my main aims for the year, namely finishing of the Eagle Knights and sort out some proper gaming terrain. Although there are still a few outstanding points, there are not ones that are detrimental to my gaming experience. I will have to consider what to put on the 2018 to do list and if i want to carry over any of these points to next year.

How have I been doing on the outstanding 2016 resolutions though?

2016

1) Try and model up all the missing models from the various army lists All that was missing from this was the Dark Guardians, which have been modelled up now.

2) Sell models I don't need! I really need to do this! Yep, still waiting on this one!

3) Try and base coat some of the models, so at least I can place them on the table together with out getting confused with what model belongs to what army Still working on this one.

So, I'm getting there! One done and 2 left to do, although one i'm going to discount as its on every list and I have yet to do it at all! So really, that means that there is just one left to do and i'm going to try and sort out my basing material this year and get both the Hjaltland LI and Eagle Knights completely finished this year. So hopefully this list will be completed this year, only 2 years later than planned!

Last but not least, lets have a look at the outstanding 2015 resolutions.

2) Base coat all vehicles, should be easy with an air brush! I've got a few done, but need to get the rest sorted. I'll try and get some of the details done as well. - Still got one left I think? Just the Hellhound I believe, but this should be done by the end of this year!

5) Sell off models I don't need, there only taking up space and will provide money towards supplies and paint. - I'm getting a feeling of Deja vu here!

Again, i'm getting there. Once more i'm going to ignore the last one, as it is on every list. So hopefully by the end of this year I should have ticked all the boxes for 2015! We'll better late than never!
