Birthday haul

So, I recently had my 40th birthday. I am starting to feel old these days. My lovely wife took me away for a child free weekend while the mother in law watched the kids, so i was not expecting anything apart from a few little bits and pieces from the kids. However, i got a few nice gifts from the family. Apart from the Panini press/maker/toaster, which I love (I told you I’m getting old), I also got a few bits of of 40k.

First up i got some horsies. I have always wanted some Rough Riders, ever since they first came out many many moons ago. I will be looking at some kit bashing for these guys though, as i want to change the heads out for different heads, which heads yet I don’t know, but i suspect that they will be from Wargames Atlantic.

Secondly i got a new floaty tank for the marines. The Repulsor Executioner will slot in to my Eagle Knights army adding some heavy anti-tank firepower. I had been flipping back and forth between the Executioner and the standard Repulsor, mostly because of the transport capacity. However with the changes to auras and attached characters, I think that the Executioner will be the better bet now. The plan will be to stick the blade guard in there with a character, possibly the Chaplin or captain, and charge it forward, I’ll just have to get some impulsors for my assault marines (unless they during out jump packs for them!!!)

Lastly i got this beauty! A big stompy boy to go with my AdMech forces. Now with the new rules I don’t know if I’ll be able to run this knight with the armigers and the AdMech forces. I really hope that I can but I suspect that I wont be able to. I plan to try and magnetise this as much as I can, so that I can build all the various versions, a friend has recently done this, so I’ll be asking them for some advise.

A couple of day after my birthday these showed up in the post.

Limited edition stamp ingot

Games Workshop stamp collection

These were courtesy of my parents, who decided it was a nice coincidence that both Warhammer and I are celebrating the same birth year! These will be going away in the safe box upstairs for future, as you never know, they might be worth something one day.

I also decided to treat myself as well and brought myself a box of these:

These will be build as Kasrkin and the extra bodies formed in to part of a command squad. I don't really need them but I've wanted a box since they first came out and decided now was as good an excuse as any.

So not a huge haul of models and stuff but still plenty of big shiny new models to keep me going!

Birthday haul

So, this post is about a month late but with all the stuff going on there hasn't been time to post it up. Last month was my birthday, nice and equally placed between Christmas!

Now, there was a slight delay to the presents, due to tue current worldwide issues, getting hold of some of the bits was a little difficult. The sisters turned up a day or two before my birthday but the painting handles and hobby box took a couple of weeks longer and didn't arrive until over two weeks after my birthday, despite being ordered in plenty of time.

So, while not a big haul, it's a very good one. The sisters have been built and with some modifications now form a kill team. Once I've had a chance to get some good pictures and maybe some paint on as well, I'll put something up on the blog.

The new paint handles join my old handle giving me lots of options when painting. Having originally got just one to give it a go, I was suitably impressed to add a number to my wish list. The extra handles have made batch painting models a lot simpler, especially when painting kill teams of 10 models.

Lastly is the hobby box. This is not something I was aiming for, nor was even on my radar. However, it has proved  very useful. I can store all my paints, tools and brushes plus the paint handles and models. This makes it really easy for painting, especially as I don't have a dedicated paint station right now.

All in all, I'm really impressed with all my presents this year and look forward to making full use of all of them. As it stands, I don't actually have anything on my wish list but that will change when 9th drops and I think I'm going to need a couple of units to fill out some lists, namely my AdMech list.

Plans........

So following on from the previous post about my birthday gifts, I though I would go into more details about what I was planning on doing with my new toys. There are a couple of plans afoot at the moment. The first revolves around the forgebane box set and the other around a box of ogryn.

For the forgebane box, I will be splitting this with a mate of mine, who will be taking the necrons. I have mentioned this trade previously (here) and so I currently have 20 skitarii and two techpriest Dominus to go with my armigers. I will be forming these in to either two 10 man vanguard units or a 10 man and two 5 man vanguard units and taking 2 of the plasma calivers in one squad and 2 of the arc rifles in another squad.

These squads, whether I form 2 or 3, will be used to support the armigers as they move up the field. I also plan on trying to kit bash some skitarii rangers from the left over parts and some Cadian bodies that I have. At the moment these Cadian bodies are modelled up as standard guards men and so will need breaking down, including the 4 heavy flamer models! That part I'm not looking forward to! This will give me around 15 to 18 rangers, depending upon how they models break downs and if I can find any more floating around. I will model these guys up as at least 3 squads, one of which will be armed with the 2 remaining transuranic arcquebus and all the squads will be used to hold objectives. This will give me somewhere between 4 to 7 skitarii squads to support the Knights. At present, the knight contingent consists of just the knight armigers but I am hoping to pick up the Renegade box set for the two knights, which will finish out the force. It could be a while until I get them though, as there are other priorities right now. I am only looking to get this force to around 2000 points and won't take it any further.

The other project involves the box of ogryn\bulgryns that o got for my birthday. The plans for this one are not fully finalized yet. I will be building at least 2 as ogryn bodyguards, one armed with a shield and ripper gun and one with a maul and shield. As yet I have still to decide which shields I will use with each, but probably the slab shield with the aim of creating a visual wall to the commander\warlord with the shields. The final model will be built as a bullgryns but as a standard one with a maul and brute shield, as I intend at some point to get another box of them to form a 4 man unit as a counter charge unit.

I have never used ogryn or bullgryns but I am really excited to get these guys built and on the table to see how they perform. My original plan was to put one in each of my guard armies to accompany the warlord but now I am leaning towards putting two in the Hjaltland LI to protect the warlord there as he is far more exposed on the battle field, the Hrossey Yeomanry warlord will be in the protective environment of a chimera for a lot of the time and the Dagr Ormr warlord will be deep striking and the ogryn can't do that. Therefore the ogryn bodyguards would be of little use and a waste of points. So, at this point I will definitely build two and keep the third for another day.

I will add at this point that this is the current plan and anyone who's followed this blog for any amount of time will tell you the my plans change quite often! I will be doing a AdMech force, but whether I get knights or not is a different matter. Hopefully these plans will work out as intended but we will have to wait and see.

Birthday haul

As you might have guessed from the title, I recently had my birthday. It was a quiet family affair, which was perfectly fine by me as I'm getting too old for all night raves these days! (Ok, so I've been to old for quite a while!). So while it was quite on the social front, it was a bit noisier on the 40k front. In amongst the presents I received were these two beauties:

Forgebane

Bullgryns

In addition to these I also decided to purchase a few items myself as a bit of a birthday present to myself. While these were not nearly as exciting, they included:

Army Painter Flock

Basing Gravel

MDF boards

Dice pack (X3)

So, a nice little haul, destined for various different things. I'll go in to more details on a couple of them in another post, but the basics are Forgebane will be split with a mate, bullgryns will be turned in to bodyguards, flock and gravel will be used to finally base my models, the MDF boards are for basing my terrain and the dice are to be used as wound markers. Simple really.

Happy Birthday to me.

So, if you hadn't guessed,  I've just had my birthday! At the grand old age of 34 most of my birthday present consisted of things for the little men (aka WH40k) or bits for the old banger sitting on the drive (aka the 2004 MG ZS 180 or "taxi lightning race" to the bairns)

So what did I get? Well, nothing really, but in a good way. With 8th being so close, I've asked for the starter set and two of the indicies, the two imperial ones. If I get the set, the plan at the moment is so swap/sell the Nurgle stuff, as its not something I want or collect and its not going to really be possible to convert to a loyalist force, like I could with the old DV chaos marines. Now, I know its a bit cheeky to sell off or swap part of a present, but they would just sit around unused otherwise.

On thing I did get was this;

Ok, so its a little out of date but its been sitting in the cupboard waiting for a while, to long to claim anything back unfortunately. That was mostly my fault as I told the wife to get it early, as I wanted the hard back book and not a soft cover one and was worried that they would sell out before my birthday came around. I was partly right as they did sell out of hard cover ones, but they are also getting rid of them all together! Oh well, I'm looking forward to reading all the fluff! Which from what small bits I have read is really good.

I will update you all if i do indeed get more stuff, for the moment though we are still playing the waiting game.
