Space marine scouts

Next up for pictures are the Space Marine Scouts. These started off as a kill team in the 2nd/2018 edition of the game which I think, apart from the commanders supplement, was the best version of the game. I’ve said it before, I don’t dislike the current edition, I just don’t like it nearly as much as the previous edition.

Anyway, the scouts themselves are very nice models and look even better now that they are fully based.

Again, not every model is here, just a selection of the models. These models will be joining the Dark Guardians first born space marines, which won't be ready for a while, although I'll be starting on them sometime this year.

Now some might notice that the snipers cloaks don't quite match with the basing material, well that's because it's not supposed to!

As you can see, they may not match the basing material and by extension, the battle mat, they do however blend in quite nicely with the main building that I use.

While not a perfect match, I think that they work quite nicely.

Space marine scouts

Next up are some additions to the space marine scouts. With these additional models, one of which is actually a modified model I already had, I can now make up 4 five man squads or 2 ten man squads. I actually have 22 scouts total, but two are models as sergeants and are swapped for other models when switching between 5 and 10 man squads.

All the new models, the six new models and the adjusted one on the far right.

There are four new snipers in full camo cloak set-up.

As you can see, they match quite with there older models. The base grey is a little darker on the new models, but nothing to noticeable.

In addition, there is a new rocket launcher and sniper, without his cloak on, plus the adapted model with sniper rifle slung on his back.

The reason I had to modify the model was to give me an additional sniper rifle equipped scout to fill out a full 10 man squad with a sgt, 8 snipers and a missile and also be able field two 5 man squads, one with a sgt, 3 snipers and a missile launcher and one with a sgt and 4 snipers. The sergeants in both squads are armed with pistol and chain swords for a bit of combat punch if necessary.

These will be finding their way in to the Dark Guardians force, as the lead elements of the biker and terminator force.

Scout kill team

It's been a while since I painted up some of my kill teams, but I've decided that I need to crack on with getting them painted. Part of the reason there has been a bit of a brea, has been due to the releases of the bespoke kill teams for various factions, that have meant that I have needed to rejig many of the teams. A few just needed reworking, such as chaos, sisters and AdMech but a couple were also added, such as 10k son's and GSC, albeit via proxies. I'm still waiting for some, namely Deathwatch, grey Knights, Tyranids and scions to get a bespoke team, as well as a number of bespoke marine teams, such as the new vanguard one we have seen released recently. One of those marine teams I expect to get a more bespoke team is Scouts, which I hope I can bash together using the models here.

The complete force, split in to combat (red), ranged (blue) and support (green), with sergeants (gold) to the front.

The three sergeants with their chain swords, which for kill team can only be fielded individually but if I take these guys in big 40k I will need at least 2 of them.

The combat scouts, with their bolt pistols and combat bladed, well 5 of them do, one seems to have misplaced his blade, maybe in the chest of an Ork or Tyranid?

The ranged scouts, with various different weapon options.

Scout shotguns

Bolters

Heavy bolters

You may not have noticed, it is very subtle, but one of the heavy bolters is an older model painted slightly differently. This is a model my son picked up many, many years and I have decided to just leave it as it was, with a few touch ups here and there, such as redoing the hair do! Nothing quite says sneaky sneaky like a bright blue mohawk.

The support

Urban camouflage

So there you have it, the scouts. Hopefully when we do get a scout specific kill team (assuming we actually do, that is) these will be used to.form that squad. For 40k games they will be split in to squads, one based around the snipers and heavy bolters and one based around the combat scouts with a third possibly made up of the left overs, as with 17 models, I can easily field three 5-man squads. They might not be optimal but what in my armies is!
